Marvin A. Fier, DDS - Single Tooth Replacement

SINGLE TOOTH IS MISSING
Benefits of an all-ceramic crown on implant:
When both the tooth and root are damaged, one solution for a permanent replacement is a dental implant in conjunction with a ceramic crown. This solution looks and functions just like a natural tooth.
This procedure includes several visits. You should expect to be able to work the day after having the implant installed.

INSTALLING THE NEW TOOTH – STEP-BY-STEP
The course of treatment described here is one of several options available. Consult your dentist to find out what the best solution is for you, given your specific condition.

1: Before the procedure
The area is examined, and one or more x-rays are taken.

2: Installing the implant
The implant is installed. A temporary tooth can be made for appearance and function.  The implant needs a few months to fuse with your bone.

3: Making your new crown
An impression is made, then a ceramic artist creates your lifelike crown. The  crown is placed and will look and feel like it's part of you.
4: End result
Your new tooth will function just like a natural tooth. You care for it as if it was your own tooth.

ALTERNATIVES TO AN ALL-CERAMIC CROWN ON IMPLANT

  Tooth-supported fixed bridge
A traditional bridge involves reshaping teeth next to the space in order to support the bridge. It looks and functions like real teeth and does not require you taking it in and out.  Think of the George Washington Bridge; it has 2 main supports with a span in the middle.

Removable partial denture
It restores function and appearance.  It is removable and will have some bulk for strength.  Sometimes it needs clasps ( may be wire or invisible) to help hold it while you wear it.  A removable partial denture is made of plastic, sometimes reinforced with an inner metal structure.  The main benefit is that adjacent teeth aren't affected.  Many people adjust to the bulk, but some find it annoying and then decide to upgrade to a fixed bridge.

  Resin-bonded bridge
This bridge looks and functions well but can only be used in certain circumstances.
